Southern Bermuda

When you travel in the southern part of the US, you'll find a lot of greens played will be on are Bermuda grass. The hotter sub-tropical climates use a lot of Bermuda for their greens since it is far easier to maintain than bent grass under these weather conditions. These different putting conditions makes putting by the numbers even more valuable since you have a way to quantify your putting.

Note that with Bermuda grass you have both with the grain and against the grain putting. Generally speaking, I find there is about a 5 % correction between the "with and "against" grain travel. However, this is easily determined by the 10-15 minutes of practice green effort prior to play. Be sure to record your findings on the score card before you start play so that you accurately assess the requirements once
you get on the course.

This ability to be able to putt any is such a confidence builder when you play away courses particularly if the surfaces conditions vary from course to course while you are playing on vacation or business. I have found the advantage I have when playing with competitors while traveling is maintaining 28-32 putts per round while my competitors putting efforts fall off considerably.

I Hope you find this tip useful when you head south on your next golf trip!
